Sheffield man knocked unconscious in the street after argument

A MAN was knocked unconscious and suffered serious facial injuries when he was attacked in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 49-year-old man had intervened to try to resolve an argument between a man and a woman in the street when he was punched in the head from behind.

His attacker, a male, had not been involved in the dispute.

Police said the victim was knocked unconscious and sustained the injuries when his head struck the ground.

The incident happened in Carlton Road, Worksop, close to the junction with The Baulk at around 12.15am on Saturday morning.

The attacker is described as white, of stocky build and aged between 20 and 30 years old.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious unprovoked assault in Worksop to contact them urgently..

“A 49-year-old man sustained serious facial injuries after he was attacked in Carlton Road.

“He was taken to Bassetlaw District General Hospital where his condition is described as stable.”

Police are keen to speak to two men and two women who were close by near the time of the incident and who they believe may have vital information which could assist the investigation.
