Sheffield man rescued by firefighters after falling into river

A man in his 20s had to be rescued by firefighters in Sheffield after reportedly falling into a river.

Emergency services were called to Effingham Street at 12.25am on Sunday morning after a report the man had gone over a wall and into the river.

When crews arrived, the man was sat on a grass bank by the side of the water and firefighters reached him with a ladder.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance following the incident, with firefighters leaving the scene at around 1am.
