PIPES and fittings may be an essential part of all buildings - but they are rarely the centre piece of a musical orchestration.

Things are about to change however thanks to the talents of a local music student, the world famous South Yorkshire-based brassware products Pegler and the innovative skills of a Sheffield metal worker.

‘Pipe Dreams’ – an exciting and innovative project engineered by Doncaster musician Rebecca McChrystal – sees the creation of a bespoke percussion instrument made entirely from Pegler Yorkshire products and the inaugural performance of a brand new composition created entirely for the occasion.

“This is extremely exciting for me and everybody who has contributed,” commented Rebecca. “It will celebrate the achievements of the Yorkshire area through the talents of Yorkshire people in the arts and industry and I am thrilled that Pegler Yorkshire has allowed me this wonderful opportunity to exhibit how music does not have to conform to usual expectations.”

The concert is to be held on Saturday 26th March at 7pm in the unusual concert venue setting of Pegler Yorkshire factory located at St Catherine’s Avenue, Balby, Doncaster. It will add a dimension of mystery and intrigue, firmly cementing the holistic partnership between industry and music, and thereby raise the awareness of music service in the region and nationally.

“We are delighted to welcome Rebecca and her innovative musical ideas to Pegler Yorkshire and we are sure it will be an evening to remember,” said Phill Jackson marketing director Pegler Yorkshire. “We commend Rebecca for her innovative approach to her musical studies and are pleased that we have been able to support her in some way.”

Rebecca, a former McAuley School student, will be supported by soprano saxophonist and composer Charlotte Harding RCM BMus (Hons) and a brigade of McAuley ‘A’ level students. Royal College of Music graduate Daniel Saleeb is creator of the musical masterpiece and Stefan Tooke, Sheffield based award winning metal worker, has created the adventurous and unique percussion instrument from Pegler Yorkshire products.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £6 for concessions. A family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) can be purchased for £25. They can be obtained from either the Tourist Information Centre, The Blue Building, High Street, Doncaster or from Doncaster Civic Theatre.

As one of the country’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of high quality taps, showers, mixers, valves and fittings, Pegler Yorkshire continues to be market leaders for innovation and customer service.
