Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has waded into a hair-raising debate that has embarrassed the leader of the coalition.
The Sheffield Hallam MP has revealed when it comes to looking after his barnet, he prefers to keep it local.
His comments came following the furore which surrounded the revelation that Lino Carbosiero, the prime minister’s hairdresser, was given an MBE in the New Year Honours list.
When questioned by listeners to his weekly radio slot, Mr Clegg said he prefers to visit a salon in his constituency wherever possible.
He last had his hair cut by Christian at Jam Hairdressing in Oakbrook Road, Fulwood.
The cost was £20 - less than a third of the sum David Cameron pays Lino each time he takes to the barber’s chair.
Mr Clegg said: “The last time I got my hair cut was in Sheffield, in my constituency. Haircuts here are considerably cheaper than in London.
“I don’t ask for a particular style, I just ask for them to make it shorter.
“Christian is running a great business, but he’s not getting an MBE.
“I do pay more when I get my hair cut in London, just off Victoria Street.”
