A NEW portrait of Sheffield-born singer Jarvis Cocker (pictured) is to be auctioned in aid of the Red Cross as part of a city centre exhibition starting today (Thursday).

The Pulp frontman has been painted by Aiden Smith and the work will be displayed in the Winter Garden alongside nine pieces by local artists.

The Artists for the Red Cross exhibition closes on Saturday night and bids in the silent auction can be made at the event or online. The auction closes at 5pm on June 29.

The other artists are Hazel Lale, Nigel Bendle, Toby Hazel, Lin Cheung, Ladoza, Lynne Wilkinson, Gorima Basu, Cynthia Dibbo and Sid Fletcher. Values range from £100 to £700. See www.redcross.org.uk/artauction.
