Pupils from a Sheffield school experienced a taste of life in the trenches as part of a week of activities based around the First World War.
Normal lessons were suspended at Norton Free CE Primary as youngsters of all age groups learned more about the conflict which broke out a century ago.
A trench made from cardboard boxes was constructed in the school hall, with the children all taking on the identities of real people who played their part in the struggle.
At the end of the day pupils discovered their real life fates - with many not surviving the war.
The day ended with the playing of The Last Post with children vowing: “We will remember them.”
