Sheffield pupils go for gold at Olympics-themed sports day

Hundreds of children hopped, skipped and jumped their way to success at an Olympics-themed sports day.

Budding Jessica Ennis-Hills and Usain Bolts from three Darnall schools united for an action-packed day at the Sheffield Hallam University City Athletics Stadium.

Community diversity officer, Mahara Haque, came up with the idea to unite young athletes from High Hazels Academy, Phillimore Primary and Acres Hill Community School to promote community cohesion.

Pupil Daniel Davies, aged 12, from Park Academy said: “It’s been really nice talking to other cultures. There are people from everywhere like Asia and Africa and there’s different talents from everyone. I would love to do this again.”
