Pupils at a Sheffield school are to learn more about the horrors of the Holocaust from a woman who escaped from Nazi Germany as a child.
Ruth Barnett will be at Sheffield Park Academy on the Manor next Tuesday, an event organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust.
It follows on from last year’s visit by Ziggi Shipper, who survived the notorious Auschwitz and Birkenau death camps.
Mrs Barnett will recount her experiences which include fleeing from Germany in 1939 on the Kinder Transport – special trains which carried Jewish children away from the persecution of the Nazis.
She will also talk about how the Holocaust affected specific groups including the Sinti and Roma communities and what has happened to the survivors since the end of the Second World War.
Park Academy headteacher Craig Dillon said: “Some of our students and staff were fortunate enough to have met Ruth last year when visiting the Holocaust Centre, so we are delighted to have the opportunity to actually welcome her into the academy next week to talk to our students about what is an incredibly important issue.”
