A NURSE who provides therapy and support for people with mental health problems has been praised for helping to nurture young nursing students.
Janet Maitland, a member of the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust’s recovery team, has been recognised as an ‘outstanding mentor’.
She was specially commended for her skills and knowledge sharing with student nurses from Sheffield Hallam University.
A grateful group of budding nurses nominated Janet for the award, after spending time working with her during their training.
Janet received her commendation at a special ceremony in the city.
She said: “This came as a complete surprise to me!
“I had no idea that the students had even nominated me.
“Mental health nursing is very demanding and requires special skills to build therapeutic relationships with service users.
“We aim to give the students a valuable insight into the profession during their 10-week placement with us. It’s great to have been recognised in this way.”
