LAND alongside the Tinsley Canal in Sheffield is looking better than ever after a group of volunteers gave the area a tidy-up.
More than a dozen staff from Yorkshire Water, the River Stewardship Company and British Waterways tidied overgrown vegetation, painted fences and removed graffiti.
They also created a new towpath alongside the canal near Blackburn Meadows waste water treatment works.
Work was carried out as part of a project to develop an action plan for the canal.
Yorkshire Water project manager Kevin Smith said: “We recognise that as a water company we have a big role to play in taking responsibility for the water environment.
“This initiative is an example of us doing just that, with the company committed to investing millions of pounds over the coming years at our Blackburn Meadows waste water treatment plant, in order to further improve the quality of treated water entering the River Don.”
