Extra bin collections are taking place in Sheffield this weekend after they were delayed by snow.

Residents are asked to leave out their black bins or blue bins and boxes if they haven’t been emptied yet, so that crews can collect as ‘conditions improve.’

The council’s waste contractor Veolia said all collections missed as a result of snow on Wednesday should be completed by the end of Sunday.

Francis Drew, contract collections manager, said: “We would like to thank residents for their patience and reassure them collections have only been suspended where absolutely necessary.

“Most of our collection trucks weigh up to 32 tonnes, so we have to be sure roads are clear enough for us to work safely without causing any damage.”
