Women in Sheffield get a better deal for their hair cuts than men in Sheffield compared with the rest of the country, a new survey has revealed.

Steel City women spend £37.21 per hair cut compared with men spending £18.93.

Despite having a cut half the number of times as men, women splash more than twice as much as men on cuts, colour, shampoo, conditioner and styling products

But compared with men in 16 other major UK cities, men in Sheffield are spending the 5th highest amount on their hair UK-wide- while Sheffield women spend the 5th lowest amount compared with women in other cities.

Men in Sheffield spend just over the national average for men of £18.50, while women in Sheffield save £5.42 per cut with the national average for a women’s cut at £42.63.

Nationally, women spend an average of £751 a year ensuring their luscious locks are perfectly pristine with men spending £364.

London is top of the crops when it comes to cost with women spending an average £65.86 each time and men £30.71.

Despite having a cut half the number of times as men, women splash more than twice as much as blokes on cuts, colour, shampoo, conditioner and styling products.

The data, collated by NetVoucherCodes.co.uk, also shows than on average women had a cut every six to eight weeks while men brave the barbers every three weeks.

The survey of 2,000 people also found long-haired ladies, who said they washed their locks four times a week, spend an average of £58.24 on shampoo and conditioner every year.

Men stated that they wash their hair three times per week, spending just £9.36 a year.

Alongside their shampoo and conditioner spend, women also splash out an extra £40.67 annually on styling products, while men spend just £18.18 in a year.

Steve Barnes, managing director of NetVoucherCodes.co.uk, said: "While it's not very practical to travel to a different city to get your hair cut, the data showed how much prices can vary between different hairdressers.

"We noticed a £24 difference between some of the salons included in the study so it's also worth shopping around."

Fans of straighteners reportedly racked up an additional £15 to their energy bill for an average of 15 hours use each year, and an extra £13 for 26 hours drying their hair each year.

The analysis also found that one in five men are now straightening their hair.

When it comes to hair dye, the cost of colouring is ever-rising, with an average full head of colour costing £71 each time for women, depending on the hair length - making a total of £287 for the year.

For those that dye their hair at home it comes much cheaper at a total annual spend of £48 made up of eight colour top-ups throughout the year.

Mr Barnes added: "People are putting much more time and money into their appearance today, which means men are less likely to rely on DIY clipper cuts.

"Instead, people are investing a bit more by taking a trip to their nearest barber."
