FORMER Sheffield City Council chief executive Sir Bob Kerslake returned to familiar territory to officially open a regeneration project.

The newly-appointed head of the civil service formally launched a multi-million-pound development for workspaces for small businesses in Knutton Road, Parson Cross.

As head of the Government’s Department for Communities and Local Government, he helped the council and the Southey and Owlerton Regeneration Project complete the scheme when it ran into problems with European funding.

Local MP David Blunkett said the funding was secured just in time before “draconian” Government spending cuts”.
