Snow: Dozens of South Yorkshire schools had a short week

DOZENS of schools across the county were closed yesterday because of heavy snow making it treacherous for teachers and pupils to get to lessons safely.

Among those to give children a long weekend in Sheffield were All Saints Catholic High & Seven Hills Special, Deepcar St Johns C of E Junior, Dore Primary, Grenoside Primary, Handsworth Grange Community Sports College, Heritage Park Special,

Holgate Meadows, King Edward VII, Norfolk Park Special, Royd Nursery Infant, Seven Hills, St Ann’s Catholic Primary, Talbot Specialist School and Woolley Wood Primary Special.

A number of others opened later to give staff and children longer to battle the elements.

They included Beck Primary, Chaucer School, Ecclesfield Secondary, Fir Vale, Firth Park Community Arts College, Forge Valley, Hatfield Academy, Hinde House, King Ecgbert, Lower Meadow Primary, Mosborough Primary School, Newfield, St Catherine’s Primary, St Patrick’s Primary and Tapton.

In Rotherham only three schools closed - Meadow View Primary in Kimberworth; Wentworth C of E and Rawmarsh Community School.

The schools in Barnsley which closed were Cawthorne C of E Primary, Oxspring Primary, Silkstone Common Junior and Infants, Millhouse Primary, Ward Green Primary, Hoylandswaine Primary, Thurlstone Primary,

Barugh Green Primary, Penistone Grammar Advanced Learning Centre, Penistone St John’s C of E Primary, Springvale Primary and St Helen’s Catholic Primary.

In Doncaster only one school closed - Denaby Main Primary School.
