A SET of World War One medals, including a Military Medal for bravery to a Sheffield soldier, sold for £850 at a city auction.

The family of Private Hague of the 1st West Riding Field Ambulance offered the set, including a large amount of provenance and associated items, for sale at Sheffield Auction Gallery.

Some of the proceeds are going to the charity, Help for Heroes, and the Royal British Legion.

Top lot over two days was an oil painting by Wright Barker of three Clumber Spaniels sat in a landscape, which fetched £4,500, five times its estimate. Three rare miners’ lamps went for £1,900.

Sheffield Auction Gallery will host BBC’s Antiques Road Trip in May and Flog It! in September.
