JUST as spring arrives, there was the sight of 120 Santas running through Weston Park.
It was a 5k event in aid of Amy’s Retreat, a Sheffield-based charity that supports families of children with cancer, and it had been postponed twice before Christmas because of bad weather. There was no stopping it on Sunday, though, and around £2,500 was raised, which will pay for families to take a holiday.
Gabrielle Latham, who helped organise the run, said: “There were plenty of people who were wondering what on earth was going on when lots of Santas appeared.”
She added: “We were so disappointed that the event had to be cancelled the first time, and on the second occasion we were despondent. But then we decided that just because Christmas had passed, it didn’t mean that our runners couldn’t still get a warm Yuletide glow.”
