MOUNTAIN rescue teams and an RAF helicopter were called out after a 74-year-old man slipped on wet ground and broke his hip while walking above Castleton.

Members of Edale and Buxton rescue team joined ambulance and helicopter crews in the operation in poor weather. They were alerted by the walker’s daughter.

He had fallen down a gully onto a steep slope at Cow Low and she was concerned that he may slip further down the hillside.

He was treated by ambulance staff and the rescue teams before being moved to a more secure location.

Then the RAF rescue helicopter winched him to safety and flew him to hospital.
