Patients and staff at Sheffield’s dedicated cystic fibrosis ward had a special visitor when actor Jenny Agutter dropped by.

Jenny, who opened the £2.4m ward nearly two years ago at the Northern General, spent the morning on the unit ahead of an engagement in the evening.

She narrated at a concert at the Victoria Hall by the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra, as part of the city’s festival celebrating the work of Benjamin Britten.

Proceeds went to the Sheffield Hospitals Charity to support CF patients.

The cause is close to Jenny’s heart - she is an ambassador for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and her niece has the condition.

Jenny, famous for her roles in The Railway Children and more recently Call The Midwife, said: “The adult ward is a huge boon, but the NHS can only do so much.”
