Journalist and broadcaster Martyn Lewis helped celebrate the achievements of more than 70 St Luke’s Hospice volunteers at a gathering in Sheffield.

As vice president of Hospice UK, he was joined on stage by St Luke’s president Anne, Lady Neill, as they presented long service awards to the volunteers.

A special award went to Helen Bacon, who has volunteered at St Luke’s for 45 years since her father was admitted as a patient.

St Luke’s Volunteer Co-ordinator, Joy Wigfield, said: “Helen has devoted a significant amount of her life to St Luke’s, at one time volunteering every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday morning, as well as regular Sundays and some evenings.

“Helen represents the spirit of all the many people who give their time to supporting St Luke’s as we support people across Sheffield.”
