Staff at SAFE@LAST gear up to run the Sheffield half marathon.

THEIR job is to help youngsters at risk of running away – but now staff at a South Yorkshire charity are preparing to run themselves.

A team of eight workers from SAFE@LAST have signed up for the 2013 Sheffield Half Marathon.

The Dinnington-based cause, which supports youngsters across South Yorkshire, is one of the official nominated charities of the race on Sunday, May 12.

Laura Jeffrey, education officer and running team organiser, said: “As a new charity for the race, we attended the 2012 awards evening in November and were truly inspired by all the amazing runners who had taken part.

“A number of the team members at the charity love running, so we thought what better way to encourage other people to support our cause by taking part ourselves.

“It’s a great way to raise awareness of SAFE@LAST and the work we do across the region.”

There are 10,000 places in the half marathon, which starts at Don Valley Stadium.

Margaret Lilley, organising committee chairman, said: “It is fantastic to see one of our official charities getting directly involved in the race by putting a team forward.

“I hope their signing up inspires many others to do the same and help raise money for one of our incredibly worthwhile local causes.”
