THE heat was on at Silverdale this week as budding cooks competed in the school’s first Masterchef contest.
Nine students cooked their way through ten qualifying rounds to reach the final. The standard was high as they gathered to spend the morning preparing and cooking two dishes ready for presentation and tasting.
Some of the more exotic creations included five-spiced duck breast with yakisoba noodles, scallops with home-made ratatouille, lamb and beetroot burger with a feta centre and rib-eye steak with spicy peanut sauce.
Judges were invited from restaurants, including Artisan, Ottos, Morans and Chilango and sponsors Sainsbury.
Honours were finally awarded to Sophie Ansell for her menu of pork tenderloin with pear and black pudding, followed by chocolate fondant.
The competition will now become an annual event, alongside the popular staff version.
