A SHEFFIELD suburb breaks new ground next month with a ‘village show’.
Twenty-one competitive categories are being organised as part of the inaugural Broomhill (Alternative) Village Show in the shopping centre on Saturday, September 24 from 10am to 2pm.
“In many villages, the village show is an annual institution when members of the public can take huge pride in growing the biggest vegetables, decorating the most sumptious cakes and creating the most beautiful handicrafts,” say organisers, Broomhill Action Neighbourhood Group.
“We want to bring some of that village spirit to Broomhill but with an urban edge.”
A ‘village green’ will be created in front of the Fulwood Road shopping parade, as the community group aims to take a leaf out of the book of organisers of the Dore Show. It held a food fair in June last year.
Exhibitors, stewards, judges and sponsors are now being encouraged to step forward. There will be a public vote for the Best in Show.
The event is free and proceeds from exhibits and other sources will be donated to the Broomhill Festival charities.
