THE musical temperature will be raised this summer in the Botanical Gardens with performances by jazz star Courtney Pine, city-born singer and musician Paul Carrack, the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra and the Keith Peters Big Band.
Tickets went on sale this week for the outdoor concerts, which are organised by the Rotary Clubs of Sheffield, Vulcan, Hallam and Wortley.
Proceeds from each night will go to a specific charity – Help for Heroes, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Shelterbox and Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.
Music in the Gardens opens on Wednesday, June 29 with the Keith Peters Big Band and the Sheffield University Big Band. The next night features Paul Carrack, whose more familiar environment is the City Hall.
Friday features Courtney Pine, one of Britain’s most celebrated and influential jazz musicians, supported by Omar Puente, the Cuban-born violinist and jazz musician who was a hit at last year’s festival.
Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dodworth Colliery Band wrap things up on the Saturday.
Tickets are available from www.musicinthegardens.co.uk. They cost £8 in advance for Wednesday and Saturday and £14 for Thursday and Friday.
