The Star shines with top JP awards

The Star is today celebrating top industry honours after scooping awards at an annual ceremony hosted by its parent company Johnston Press.

Richard Fidler, recently promoted to Night Editor, was named Daily Sports Journalist for the second year running.

Digital Editor Graham Walker led The Star Editorial Team on stage to collect the trophy for Best Use of Social Media, for growing Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other online networks.

He also received a runner up Innovation Award, sponsored by Endava, for his work on bringing a Walking With Dinosaurs poster to life with Aurasma augmented reality videos.

Editorial Design Award went to Michelle Kilner, of the Sheffield Editorial Hub.

Sheffield Newspapers worker Michael Rhodes was named Best Sales Person, sponsored by Salesforce.

Best Publishing Unit Sales Team winner went to Sheffield newspapers.

The Star Business magazine, edited by David Walsh, was Magazine of the Year runner up.

South Yorkshire and Peaks finalists also included Mansfield Chad’s Helen Beighton, who was runner up Weekly Journalist Of The Year

Ashley Highfield, CEO of Johnston Press, hosted the awards with help from other managers.

More than 170 people attended the ceremony last night, with awards in 44 categories, at Oulton Hall Hotel, Rothwell Lane, Oulton, Leeds.
