Yorkshire Artspace has converted the striking six-storey building on Exchange Street (built in 1925 as Hambleden House, a wholesale branch of WH Smith) into a 60-studio complex, Exchange Place, which is having an open day on Saturday. “It seems that everyone in Sheffield has a memory of the old transport offices,” says YASS director Kate Dore. “People keep dropping by and telling us their stories and we tell them ours - my mum worked there in the ‘60s before I came along.’’
