Dogs from Owlerton Stadium got into the spirit of the USA’s annual National Dog Day and celebrated by dog lovers the world over.

The day was created in the USA to recognise the role of man’s best friend but also to raise awareness of the plight of dogs which need to be rescued and rehomed.

John Gilburn, managing director of Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, said: “The welfare of dogs is extremely important to us at Owlerton and we are always keen to highlight the positive role that dogs play in our lives and how much they bring to society, as well as raising awareness of the importance of responsible dog ownership.”

The stadium has helped re-home more than 1,700 retired greyhounds with the Retired Greyhound Trust since 2006.
