PROFESSOR Marysia Placzek, of the University of Sheffield’s Department of Biomedical Science, was honoured at a celebration of the leading women in science from across the world.

She was one of ten female scientists and communicators given an award by the Medical Research Council at the Science Museum in London as part of its Suffrage Science project, commemorating 100 years of women pioneers.

They received a jewellery heirloom, with a design inspired by jewellery of the suffrage period, which they have to pass on to a younger woman in science in two years to encourage them to make their way to the top. The presentation was on International Women’s Day.
