Trail is best route of under 30 miles

The Monsal Trail in the Peak District has been voted the UK’s favourite National Cycle Network route under 30 miles.

The 8.5-mile trail - which runs along the former Midland Railway line to Coombs Road, Bakewell - topped the category in a poll to mark the network’s 20th anniversary. Most of the route was opened to the public in 1981. Four railway tunnels then became part the trail in 2011.
