This is the scene on a Sheffield street after a 21-year-old man crashed the car he was driving into a tree, leading to his death and to a 13-year-old girl being seriously injured.
The incident is believed to have occurred at around 3.40am today (Saturday, October 3) when police received reports that a silver Vauxhall Astra was on fire following a collision with a tree on Ellesmere Road in Burngreave.
The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old Sheffield man, died at the scene.
The front seat passenger, a 13-year-old girl, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she remains in a critical condition.
Two female backseat passengers, aged 16 and 17, received minor injuries.
Officers have closed a number of roads around the site of the collision including Earldom Street, Earldom Road, Petre Street and Sutherland Road. The roads will remain closed for some time while investigations are ongoing at the scene.
Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or saw the Astra or any other vehicles prior to the collision, to contact 101 quoting incident number 203 of October 3 2015.
