Two Sheffield couples who have been married for almost 100 years between them enjoyed a special Valentine’s Day treat.
Doreen Walker and Frank Mason, both residents at St Catherine’s Nursing Home on Burngreave Road, Burngreave, were over the moon when their other halves turned up for a surprise, luxury meal.
Safura Bibi, home’s activities coordinator who organised the occasion for the couples, said: “It was a lovely day and they said no-one had done anything like this for them before.
“I did a makeover on the two women and we did Valentine’s decor in the whole room and then arranged a three-course meal for them.
“They had chocolates, flowers, cards – everything.”
Malcolm, aged 69, and his wife Doreen, 72, are from Pitsmoor and have been married for more than 40 years.
Frank, 84, and his wife Doreen, 88, have been married for more than 50 years and spent most of their married life in Firth Park.
Safura said: “Malcolm was really tearful and Doreen kept saying how happy she was and she had never had a day like this.
“She said it was the best day she’d had in a long time.”
“Frank was so happy his wife had lipstick on! He doesn’t talk very much but you could tell he was mesmerised by her.
“You could tell he was happy and content and really enjoyed his meal as well.”
