War veteran and former coal merchant Bill Carline, aged 92, of Birley Moor Road, is leading a fundraising campaign for a permanent monument in memory of 19 Frecheville men who died during World War Two in time for the 2015 anniversary of the end of the war. He hopes it will be installed overlooking Frecheville pond. Contact 239 7796.
