Veteran peace campaigner Bruce Kent will be at Sheffield CND’s ‘peace picnic’ in the Japanese garden at Meersbrook Park community walled garden on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm.

Commemorating Nagasaki Day, it will include the reading of a message from the Mayor of Nagasaki, a performance by folk singer Roy Bailey and poetry readings.

Hiroshima Day was marked on Tuesday by a ceremony outside the Town Hall that was attended by the Lord Mayor, Coun Vickie Priestley.

Local CND members are remembering the dropping of atom bombs on the Japanese cities in 1945, which led to the deaths of more than 220,000 people and, with the long-term effects of radiation, 350,000.
