About 150 far-right protesters from Britain First marched through the streets of Rotherham today.

Members of the group waved Union Flags and chanted as they made their way from Rotherham Train Station up to the Town Hall.

The protest was organised in response to the child sexual exploitation scandal that has engulfed the town.

It is the latest in a long line of far-right protests to come to the town since the explosive Jay Report first released in August 2014.

A counter demonstration by United Against Fascism, attended by a similar number of protesters, was also staged at the same time in the middle of the town centre.

A strong police presence of hundreds of officers from South Yorkshire Police and other forces across the country kept the two groups apart.

Scores of at least 25 riot vans lined the streets while metal barriers were put up at junctions throughout the town centre.
