Sheffield girl Kirsty White may appear to have vanished into thin air – but she’s been on a magical adventure which brings her home tonight (Sunday, October 6), writes Graham Walker.
She really is about to reappear in her home town.
But it’s for one night only and you won’t see her in the spotlight. The former dancer is the associate director of The Illusionists; the magic show taking the world by storm.

Featuring seven of the greatest magicians alive, it opened at the Sydney Opera House and has gone on to sell out venues from Mexico City to Dubai.
But for 33-year-old Kirsty, from High Green, the most magical night of all will be at Sheffield City Hall on Sunday, October 6 (show time 7.30pm). That’s where it all began for her as a young dancer.
After appearing in shows all over the world she swapped the spotlight for a backstage role in charge of productions with husband Simon Painter, who is creative director of The Illusionists. They have a Cirque-Du-Soleil type show, called Le Noir, which will tour Japan this autumn.
Then they will set to work on The Illusionists 2. When they are not touring they are now based in Santa Monica, in California. But “home” is still High Green for Kirsty, who can’t wait to meet up with family and friends.
“We’ve played amazing venues, like opening the show at the Sydney Opera House.
“It was just unreal. Amazing. And we’ve toured iconic buildings around the world,” she said.“But to be going back home, to a stage where I’ve grown up dancing, is just really special. My family and friends are beyond excited. It’s a little bit overwhelming to be honest.
So what’s the most magical thing to do in Sheffield?
“I love Meadowhall. Who doesn’t?” she laughed.
The Illusionists is described by Kirsty’s husband and the show’s creative director Simon Painter as the ‘Avengers of Magic’.
It features The Enchantress Jinger Leigh, The Trickster Jeff Hobson, The Anti Conjuror Dan Sperry, The Escapologist Andrew Basso, The Inventor Kevin James and The Gentleman Mark Kalin.
Each is a master in their own field and, with the help of 20 assistants, they perform the spectacular tricks from their hugely impressive repertoires.
There are acts of grand illusion, levitation, mind-reading, disappearance and for the first time ever in history, a full view water torture escape - recreating Harry Houdini’s death defying routine, but with no drapes, for 21st century audiences to witness the impossible, as the poster says. It lives up to the promise.
Tickets for October 6 - one show only at 7.30pm – are from £30 each, subject to booking fee.
