Thousands of thrill-seekers turned out for this year’s Cliffhanger festival which saw Sheffield city centre transformed into an adventure playground.

Held this weekend, people came from far and wide to enjoy a whole host of high-octane activities on offer at the festival including orienteering, slacklining, bouldering, parkour, canoeing, skateboarding and diving.

The festival, which was held in the city centre for the first time this year, spanned a number of different locations including the Peace Gardens, Winter Garden Barkers Pool and Devonshire Green.

Gary Clifton – Major Events Manager at Sheffield City Council, said this year’s Cliffhanger festival had been a great success.

He said: “Having it in the city centre has worked really well, and because it’s in a far more accessible location this has meant that we’ve had a lot more footfall, and attracted a lot more new people this year.

Returning as the headline event the British Bouldering Championships took over Devonshire Green on Saturday and Sunday, as the best climbers in the UK battled it out to be crowned king and queen of the wall.

Among the adventurers who attended the festival was seven-year-old Emily Jacobs, of Shirecliffe, who scaled a 15ft high climbing wall.

She said: “I thought I might be scared, but I had a go and I did it so feel very pleased now!”
