Talented youngsters from all over South Yorkshire flooded to a special event to find out more about apprenticeships.

Around 400 school pupils attended the ‘Apprenticeships - Be Inspired’ event at Ponds Forge. More than 30 employers attended to meet the young people and let them know about more than 250 jobs on offer with various local firms.

Coun Jackie Drayton, cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “It was a great delight for me to be part of this fantastic event.

“It was also wonderful to meet the talented young apprentices who had been nominated for special awards by their employers.

“The council’s 100 Apprenticeship Scheme is a brilliant success and a great example of partnership working – young people, employers, training providers and the council working together to make a real difference to Sheffield’s economy, local businesses and young people’s lives.”

Coun Drayton said the council has worked hard to increase the number of apprenticeships in the city to give businesses the skills they need and young people a positive future.
