Sheffield United supporters paid a poignant tribute to Kasabian Newton-Smith this afternoon, after the eight-year-old tragically passed away overnight.

The brave Sheffield youngster, whose fight against cancer and two inoperable brain tumours has inspired many, died peacefully in his sleep, his dad Simon Newton confirmed today.

The Blades fan, from Parson Cross, was diagnosed with cancer when he was two years old but developed inoperable brain tumours last year. United fans joined in with a minute of applause, after eight minutes of their 4-0 victory over Swindon Town this afternoon, to honour him.

Kasabian inspired the #1LastSmile4Kasabian campaign on Twitter, which saw Blades players Billy Sharp and Chris Basham visit him. Wayne Rooney, his football hero, sent him his England shirt from the game against Scotland last month.
