EXTRA help to create apprenticeships as part of Sheffield’s City Deal has been praised by MP Paul Blomfield.
The Sheffield Central Labour MP said the £72 million funding to create 4,000 apprenticeships and fund training for a further 2,000 people at work was ‘welcome’.
He said: “This is exactly the kind of ambitious action that we need to encourage more small and medium-sized business across South Yorkshire to take on new young apprenticeships.”
Mr Blomfield added: “By investing in apprentices we can develop our skills base, tackle youth unemployment and prevent another lost generation from happening.
“Small businesses are key. If less than half of them took on apprentices, it would wipe out youth unemployment.”
