NOT so very long ago Jason Jesson had a dream to offer the ultimate wash day experience. To provide Sheffield with a soapy something different.

But to do so he would be required to open Sheffield’s first new launderette in more than 20 years.

Not only that but he would have to make it rather special.

And those dropping in to do their smalls and other bits and pieces at his place on Barber Road, Crookesmoor, will vouch that this was no soap dream.

Laundry Point not only provides home to the city’s biggest laundry washer – a 35lb capacity monster which can handle two superkingsize duvets together – it has all the mod cons required to blow away those wash day blues.

Jason, aged 39, a customer relations expert prior to the venture, came clean about why he got into the laundry business.

He said: “After travelling the UK I began to notice the overall quality of service in some launderettes – rundown with old tatty machines and a very uninviting interior. I thought – surely someone could do better.”

Jason added: “The concept for our domestic customers is to provide the latest in energy efficient machines, laundry washing, dry cleaning and ironing, plus eradicate the boredom and blandness of old-fashioned launderettes. We’ve done this by adding Sky TV, free Wifi, comfortable seating, Flavia coffee and a free car park.

“There’s no old plastic chairs, no worn-out magazines – and certainly no Dot Cotton with our service.

“People need a good laundry service – when dealing with duvets and bedding, for example.

“Or when back from holiday, or just too busy to spend hours dealing with their own laundry needs.

“In fact, as we all get busier and are working harder, we have never needed more help with our housework.”

Commercial customers include hotels, restaurants and hairdressers and even Sheffield Council.
