Wise wedding words

NOW that spring has sprung, the wedding season has come into full swing with all the attendant stresses and strains

But Helen Dugdale believes she has come up with the antidote to the Bridezilla condition with a handy little tome called Bridal Moments, a down-to-earth guide to both the joys and perils of getting hitched.

"It's amazing when you start talking to people about their wedding how many people experience hiccups along the way. At the time when something goes wrong it seems the end of the world but really it's just part of your own unique wedding story," says Helen, who wrote the book while planning her own wedding.

"Bridal Moments is about having a laugh and putting it in perspective. I'm not a wedding expert but the people I interviewed for the book are. I made sure everyone I spoke to offered real, down-to-earth advice, not just the pomp and fluff that you can get from the magazines."

It includes an insight into male psychology, Quidnunc could not help but notice. "It gives an in-depth look into a bloke's brain. What makes them flick the go-slow button as the big day approaches and how to 'encourage' them to step it up a gear when things need doing.

"The book has roots in Sheffield," says Helen. "Brendan Moffett of Creative Sheffield came up with the idea of writing a wedding book about how men are so lazy when it comes to the planning stage and getting involved and was looking for someone to write it. So that's what I did."

Mancunian Helen lived on this side of the Pennines for more than 10 years, several of them working at Hallam FM. She was communications manager at Sheffield International Documentary Festival for more than five years and now runs her own PR firm which includes doing publicity for the Showcomotion young people's film festival.

Bridal Moments is published by Marshall Cavendish at 9.99.
