YOUNGSTERS taking part in the National Citizen Service scheme with Sheffield Wednesday have raised more than £1,000 for a children’s charity.
The volunteers organised and took part in a range of activities in order to raise funds for Cash for Kids, which funds initiatives for poorly and underprivileged children in our communities.
They made a total of £1,200 by hosting a fancy dress car wash in the Owls Megastore car park, clearing up the Botanical Gardens, holding bag-packing events at two supermarkets and holding a bucket collection at a recent game.
Participants spent two weeks away from home taking part in outdoor team-based challenges before returning home to work on the community projects they feel most strongly about.
Wednesday’s social inclusion officer Matt Bray said: “The kids were really enthusiastic about raising money for a good cause and should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
