From: Coun Paul Scriven
Liberal Democrat Leader of Sheffield City Council
It’s great news that we have secured another 700 jobs for Sheffield thanks to new investment from Rolls-Royce. This comes on top of 500 new jobs from Sky and 400 from VOICE marketing. In the last few weeks alone over one and a half thousand new jobs have been announced for our city. A fact that should be celebrated by all.
This investment and huge vote of confidence in Sheffield is no accident. Liberal Democrat business friendly policies within the Town Hall are starting to come to fruition. We are encouraging private sector growth in the city at a time when we need it most.
Readers will be glad to learn that Liberal Democrats have set aside a ring-fenced fund of nearly £1.4m for next year, to help bring even more new jobs to Sheffield. It is a key part of our strategy for the Council. However, only last month Labour confirmed that the first thing they would do if they took control of the Council in May would be to cut this fund entirely in order to fund some of their pet projects and favoured areas. That’s a whopping 100% cut.
While Lib Dem councillors are helping Sheffield buck-the-trend nationally, Labour councillors want to stick two fingers up to new jobs, enterprise and business, taking Sheffield back to the bad old anti-business days.
