WORK to transform one of central Sheffield's most prominent green spaces has been completed at a cost of £1.6 million.
Devonshire Green has undergone a major facelift over the last year.
Les Sturch, Sheffield Council interim director of development services, said: "We are thrilled Devonshire Green has been transformed into an area which visitors can enjoy and residents can feel proud of. "By improving the space we have created an area that can be used by a whole range of people for a variety of purposes including events and festivals.

The project was funded entirely through contributions from developers. A total of 5,500 square metres of new turf has been laid, along with 340 square metres of high-quality flower beds. These contain more than 23,000 bulbs and 22 semi-mature trees. Sculptured 'sitting walls' have been created to provide 184 metres of seating and enclosure for the planting beds.
The new area also has an amphitheatre space with terraced grass verges and a paved area to enable the green to be used as a venue for music festivals and events.
