TWO large areas of grassland two miles apart were deliberately set alight in arson attacks on Strines Moor, on the outskirts of Sheffield.
Firefighters from Rivelin and the city centre station were called out to deal with the blazes to prevent the sun-scorched grass from burning out of control.

A smaller grass fire was also started on Edge Lane, Birley Edge.

Piles of rubbish were
set alight on Acres Hill Lane in Darnall, Carey Grove on the Manor, Badsley Street in Rotherham, Brinsworth Road in Brinsworth, and in a field near the recreation ground on Wales Road, Kiveton Park.

And firefighters were called out to Athena Stainless Steel, Sheffield Road, to a report of a derelict building alight and found discarded rubbish inside had been set ablaze.
