TWO babies were taken to hospital last night after being rescued from a smoke-filled tower block in Sheffield.
The tots, both aged three months, were rescued from two separate flats by firefighters and taken to hospital after inhaling smoke.

Fire crews were called to the tower block on Callow Drive, Gleadless, at 7pm and found rubbish alight in the communa
l lobby area and the rest of the building heavily smoke-logged.

They searched the building and found a woman with her three month old baby in a ninth floor flat and two adults and another three-month-old baby on the fifth floor.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "Three fire appliances from Mansfield Road and Central station were quickly at the scene. Firefighters found rubbish on fire in the lobby area, and the rest of the building heavily smoke logged."

Fire crews left the scene at 9:04pm and an investigation into the blaze is now underway.
