A FAMILY was left heartbroken when they returned from a party to find their Sheffield home ransacked by burglars who stole more than £1,500 of belongings.
Thieves turned Kate Coleman's home in Motehall Way, Manor Park, upside down, while she and her partner Darren Birch and children Lewis, 11, and Millicent, nine, were enjoying the After Dark fireworks at Don Valley Bowl.

The family arrived home to
find their house had been completely ransacked.

Call centre worker Kate, 31, said: "I felt gutted and disgusted. It was very upsetting. Everything was either dragged out or overturned and it has taken me two days to try and straighten everything up.

"We are absolutely devastated and I can't sleep without checking things over and over again.

"It was an absolute mess. They had been through all the drawers and through our personal things which was really upsetting."

The thieves stole Lewis' bike, his PS2, 40 games, an Xbox 360 and 20 games, a Wii fit board, nine Wii games, Kate's purse containing bank cards and a driving licence, a Dyson vacuum cleaner, two mobile phones, DVDs, Millicent's pink Nintendo DS, £150 cash, £150 vouchers and even raided 16 cans of lager from the fridge.

Kate said: "It's been a really hard year financially and Darren has just moved to Sheffield and got a job as a welder so things were looking up. I had got a quote for insurance that morning but couldn't take out a policy until pay day so we weren't even insured.

"It's the first time we've been out as a family for a very long time because of our finances and it's really cost us."

Anyone with information about the break-in between 5.20pm and 9.20pm is urged to call Moss Way Burglary Unit on 0114 296 3525.
