SOCCER belles from the States took on the Sheffield Wednesday ladies' team when they arrived in Yorkshire as part of a UK tour.
California's West Coast United FC won the challenge at Huddersfield University 1-0.
The American visitors proved to be the fitter side, with the Wednesday girls playing out of season and with the some of the regular team away on holiday.
After
the game the teams met for a social where gifts were exchanged and both sets of girls, coaches and parents chatted late into the evening.
The visitors said the game had been by far the toughest they had played so far and that SWLFC had played the game with great skill and commitment.
West Coast Utd train all year round, twice a week in temperatures over 100F at times and regularly play two league games at weekends, playing on Saturdays and Sundays.
Assistant manager Dave Higgins said: "A great evening was had overall, the Wednesday girls were great ambassadors for the game, new friendships were made and now a branch of SWLFC fan club is hopefully based in the hills of California!"
