AN all-night charity walk from a Dronfield park in June raised more than £150,000 for a hospice – but sparked complaints from residents about loud music disturbing their sleep until 4am.
Dronfield Town Council was told more than 1,200 women walked from Cliffe Park, Dronfield, to Ashgate Hospice in Chesterfield and back during the night of Midsummer day assisted by 80 volunteers.
Town Clerk Roy Hunt said the council had received se
veral "minor complaints" about noise nuisance from loud music being played during the event's warm-up session.
Coun Graham Baxter, who is also leader of North East Derbyshire District Council, said the Town Clerk and his staff were not on duty at weekends and councillors received numerous complaints from residents kept awake by loud music until 4am.
He said: "I am in favour of this event but councillors received numerous abusive calls from residents who had been kept awake by this music."
The hospice asked for permission to hold a similar event in Cliffe Park during the night of Midsummer's Day in June next year and the council approved the application but said music must stop being played at 10pm.
