A WOMAN was lucky to survive after her bedding went up in flames as she slept.
The woman, aged in her 20s, was asleep in her home on Fretson Road, Manor, when her bedding caught fire.

A fire service spokesman said the woman's partner had been smoking just before he took her child to school and put out his cigarette in an ash
tray beside their bed.

But firefighters believe the cigarette was not fully out and must have fallen on to the bedding or been accidentally knocked on to it.

When the woman's partner returned home he found neighbours outside who had spotted smoke.

He ran upstairs, managed to rouse his partner and led her to safety.

She was drowsy because she had inhaled smoke.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze.
