STAFF who deal with 999 calls to South Yorkshire Fire Service have to get to grips with an entirely new computerised system before the county's £19 million new HQ can open.
Work on the building in Eyre Street is due to be finished by the end of August, with staff expected to begin working there from September.

But before then, emergency call handlers have to be able to use the new system in the control room.

They
are undergoing training on the equipment in the current control room and, once it is fully installed in the new building, will be given further familiarisation sessions.

Technical tests on the system have been carried out to ensure there are no glitches.

The HQ has been built to allow the current city centre building on Wellington Street to be demolished to make way for the Sevenstone shopping area.
